Aaron C. Saylors has been a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and Dallas Chapter since 1971. In his near-30 years of service to the Institute and Chapter, Aaron has served in numerous positions:

Chairman of numerous committees including Research Committee, Nominations Committee, Seminars, Meeting Arrangements, Social, Membership/Public Relations, Programs, and Hospitality.

  • During his tenure on the Board of Governors the membership of the Dallas Chapter has grown from 35 to more than 1000, and developed into a “world class” chapter.
  • Led the Chapter’s efforts to raise $350,000 to fund a professorship for the first endorsed Internal Audit program at a university in Texas at the University of North Texas.
  • Led the Chapter’s efforts to bring the IIA International Conference to Dallas in 1975, 1987 and 1998. Was chair of the chapter committee hosting the conference in 1987, and was responsible for local arrangements for the 1975 conference. Was described by Howard Johnson, 1998 conference chair, as the “chairman of panache” for the 1998 conference.
  • Led the Chapter’s efforts to bring the Southern Regional Conferences to Dallas in 1980 and 1985.
  • Leader on the Board of Governors with the current charge of determining our chapter’s long range plan for distributing the profits from the 1998 international conference.
  • Leader for 7 years and former chair of the Advisory Board of the University of North Texas Internal Auditing program.
  • Leader for 5 years on the Advisory Board of Louisiana State University Internal Audit Pilot School, the first internal auditing curriculum in the world and currently considered the premier program in the world.
  • Winner of the Dallas Chapter Outstanding Contribution to the profession in 1974 and 1997.

  • During his tenure on the Board of Directors the Board was faced with some difficult challenges, such as relieving the International President of his position and reviewing the barriers and opportunities of shifting to a global perspective for the Institute.
  • Leader on the special task force that rewrote the criteria for elections and the procedure for nominations during 1988.
  • As the chairman of the International Conference Committee he assisted the Institute in earning more than $500,000 from international conferences.
  • As a leader on the Ethics Committee, he participated on the only two hearings ever held by the committee.
  • As a trustee on the Research Foundation, he participated in the oversight of the preparation and issuance of the Competency Framework for Internal Auditors, a historical document for the profession.
